About the study

A study measuring how trust in civil society organisations and donation behaviour were affected following news reports of an investigation concerning the Ahbap Association and Haluk Levent. The results show that debate surrounding one organisation affected perceptions of NGOs more broadly: 85.6% of respondents said the developments had reduced their trust, while approximately one in two was considering reducing or stopping donations altogether.

Key findings

  • 64.8% said their trust had “decreased greatly”, 20.8% said it had “decreased somewhat”, and 14.4% said it had not been affected.
  • 26.5% of respondents said they would donate less, 22.5% would no longer donate, and 27.8% had not yet decided.
  • 28.9% always carry out detailed research before donating, while 27.4% usually do so. In total, 56.3% regularly research before making a donation decision.
