Public concern over price increases stood out in the week 39 results of the Türkiye Monitor, published weekly by Aksoy Araştırma. According to the study, 66.8% of the Turkish public fear the seemingly unstoppable rise in inflation.

In the nationwide study, participants were asked which increase they feared most: “exchange rates, inflation or interest rates”. Inflation was the greatest concern at 66.8%, followed by exchange rates at 21.5%. The share selecting interest rate increases was 11.7%.

According to the findings broken down by voters' party preferences, inflation was the most feared increase among voters of every political party. Among AK Parti voters, 64.9% said they most feared an increase in “inflation”, while 73.5% of MHP voters gave the same answer. The figure was 63.5% among CHP voters and 70.7% among İYİ Parti voters. Among HDP voters, it was 70.4%.

INTEREST RATE INCREASES, FREQUENTLY EMPHASISED BY THE PRESIDENT, WERE THE LEAST FEARED

Interest rate increases, which President Erdoğan frequently highlighted and opposed, ranked behind increases in inflation and exchange rates in terms of public concern.

According to the findings, only 17.2% of AK Parti voters said they most feared an increase in “interest rates”, falling to 13.7% among MHP voters. The proportion of CHP voters selecting interest rates was 8.7%, compared with 7.6% among İYİ Parti voters.
