Data Security Study
About the study
Following the attack on Yemeksepeti and data breaches at global platforms, this study measures consumers’ views on sharing personal information and data security. The findings show that consumers are particularly concerned about sharing identity information, do not read user agreements and do not regard their information as secure; they do not forgive brands whose customer data is stolen.
Key findings
- The information respondents are most uneasy about sharing is their Turkish national identity number (88.5%); the information they are least uneasy about sharing is their first and last name (58.5%).
- The majority do not read user agreements; the main reason among those who do not is that the agreements are too long (77.5%).
- 50.2% of respondents think the information they share is not secure (53.3% of men and 47.9% of women).
Methodology
On 5 April 2021, 1,067 interviews were conducted through the Mobile Panel (Eşzamanlı), with a reported 95% confidence level and 3% margin of error. Quotas representative of Türkiye were applied for gender, NUTS1 region, age and AB-C1-C2 socioeconomic status. The results were analysed by socioeconomic status.
